This zoo closed in 2015, after which a new animal park was opened elsewhere in Emmen in early 2016. In June 2016, the old zoo was reopened as a city park by former zoo director Aleid Rensen. This park was first given the name 'People Park', but at the beginning of 2018 it was renamed 'Rensenpark', after the Rensen couple.

Tweestryd is a double steel shuttle roller coaster in the Dutch zoo Wildlands Adventure Zoo Emmen . The attraction is a custom dueling Family Boomerang from Dutch producer Vekoma and opened in 2018. The attraction consists of two lanes, each with a train. Both trains can seat 20 people and have a top speed of 60 kilometers per hour.

The Grote Rietplas is a landscaped recreational lake on the south side of Emmen . It was built in the late 90s of the twentieth century after years of haggling over finances. In 1993 and 1994 the municipality of Emmen was also duped by scammer Rob Jacob for about three million euros. He was going to have hundreds of luxury bungalows built there, but before that he ran off abroad with the money from the municipality of Emmen, construction companies and the ING Bank and fled to India.

A majestic and beautiful museum contains a collection of over seventy thousand objects and books that were collected by Jans Brands during his lifetime. The ‘crown jewel’ of the museum is a complete medieval register from 1382, which contains a summary of all the feudal lords and their holdings that had sworn fealty to the then bishop of Utrecht, Floris van Wevelinkhoven.
