Patscherkofel is Innsbrucks Ski Paradise in the south: easy to recognise from its rounded shape and the prominent radio mast on its peak. During both the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics, the mountain was the venue for the men's downhill race, along with the bobsleigh and luge competitions in neighboring Igls. The other five alpine skiing events were held at Axamer Lizum.

A beautiful lake, which has its source in the Blauer See and flows through the Viggartal in the Tux Alps in a north-southwesterly direction and flows into the Sill below Ellbogen . The stream has a length of 10 kilometers. The raging brook retains water quality class I throughout its course and is particularly dangerous during floods and heavy rain. However, because surrounding communities are a little further from the body of water, there is less risk to housing developments.

Patscherkofel Cable Car Lower/Valley Station

This cable car leads from the village of Igls up onto the Patscherkofel mountain to the south of Innsbruck, a popular destination for hikers, mountainbikers and those who simply want to enjoy fantastic views of the surrounding landscape. It was built in 1928 as an aerial tramway and replaced in 2017 by a monocable gondola with a slightly different route.

During the 15th century the castle was enlarged to become a residence for princes. It now houses a museum called mint museum and open to the general public. Demonstrations of historical minting techniques are given from time to time.The castle itself is an example of early Gothic era Tirolean fortress architecture.
