The Union Chain Bridge links England and Scotland, crossing the River Tweed between Horncliffe in Northumberland and Fishwick in Berwickshire. The Royal Border Bridge spans the River Tweed between Berwick-upon-Tweed and Tweedmouth in Northumberland, England. In 1292 Edward I declared his verdict on the Scottish succession within the castle's Great Hall. Much of the fortification was destroyed by the construction of the railway in the nineteenth century.
