Boston Guildhall is a magnificent building that is wonderfully preserved with a wealth of original features. It was built in the 1390s by the Guild of St Mary, a collection of the wealthiest and most prominent members of Boston society. Works of art include a portrait, painted by Thomas Phillips, of Sir Joseph Banks, recorder of Boston in 1813, who sailed with Captain James Cook aboard the Endeavour on the first great voyage to discover Australia.
