This 13th Century church stands on the site of a 2nd Century Roman Fort and the 9th Century foundations of a wooden shrine to St Cuthbert. This was home to the Lindesfarne community from 883-995 AD and where in c. 960 the priest Aldred produced the earliest surviving translation of the gospels into early English.

Elvet Bridge is a stone bridge that crosses the River Wear connecting the peninsula in central Durham and the Elvet area of the city. The bridge has 10 visible arches and further arches hidden under the road. Bowes Railway was originally a colliery railway built to carry coal mainly from pits in north west Durham to the Tyne at Jarrow. It was built by George Stephenson in 1826, is the world's only operational preserved standard gauge cable railway system. The railway is open every week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday as well as on a number of event days throughout the year.
