Passo del FurloVia Flaminia, 61043 Cagli PU, Italy

The gorge or Furlo pass is a gorge located between Mount Pietralata and Mount Paganuccio, created by the erosive force of the Candigliano river, a tributary of the Metauro. Over the millennia it has reached a considerable depth, which however is no longer visible due to the dam, built-in 1922, which reduced the impetuous stream to a placid lake. It is located in the province of Pesaro-Urbino in the territory of the municipalities of Fermignano, Fossombrone, Cagli, and Acqualagna.

The potholes of the giants are deep pit-shaped depressions in the rocks, which arise from river erosion in locations that were covered by glaciers.  The potholes of the giants were formed with the melting waters of the glaciers, which flowed through the crevasses and especially the glacial mills.  The largest "potholes of the giants" are found, by their very nature, where large glaciers are or were.
