Attractions to explore nearby Lago Gabiet
The lake Gabiet is a reservoir of Valle d'Aosta. The basin is located in the Lys valley above Gressoney-La-Trinité at an altitude of 2,373 m asl and feeds the Gressoney-La-Trinité hydroelectric plant and allows the generation of 11 MW, with a production of 14.5 GWh / year. The dam that made up the lake, made by a massive gravity dam, was built between 1919 and 1922. The lake can be reached via the gondola that goes from Stafal to just below the lake.
The step of Salati is a mountain pass that constitutes the natural border between the Valsesia and the valley of Lys, respectively, in Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta. The pass opens between the Corno del Camoscio and the Stolemberg. It is reached by two important and modern cableways, a cableway coming from Gressoney-La-Trinité and a funifor from Alagna, included in the extensive Monterosaski ski area, one of the largest in Italy.
The Rifugio Città di Mantova is a refuge in the Aosta Valley in the Valais Alps. It is located at an altitude of 3498 m in the Lystal side valley near the Ghiacciaio del Garstelet glacier within the municipality of Gressoney. The hut is managed from the end of March to mid-April and from mid-June to mid-September and offers 80 mountaineers sleeping places.
Testa Grigia is a rocky prominence above the Theodul Pass, located on the border between Italy and Switzerland. It overlooks the Plateau Rosa section of the Theodul Glacier on its east side. It is usually climbed from the Gressoney side, where the climb presents no technical difficulties, as the route is assisted by a fixed rope. The summit offers a fine balcony view of Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn.
The Indren glacier is located in the Monte Rosa massif and extends down from the basin between the Vincent Pyramid and the underlying Punta Giordani. It has a rather regular slope, interrupted only in the middle of the basin by an imposing serac, at the point where from the glacial mantle a rocky crest descending towards the south is generated, called Cresta Rossa, which contains the glacier on the eastern side. One of the risky trekking locations and it will be a new experience.
The Giovanni Gnifetti hut is a refuge located in the municipality of Gressoney-La-Trinité, on the Valle d'Aosta side of Monte Rosa, in the Pennine Alps, at 3647 m asl. The refuge has 176 beds and is open, with overnight stay and restaurant service, from Easter to September. As long as there was the Bocchetta delle Pisse - Punta Indren cable car, hikers preferred to use this ski lift to avoid the Stolemberg section, which extended the excursion by about 2 hours.
The Bätt pass is a pass in the Pennine Alps at an altitude of 2,727 meters in the Aosta Valley, between the Ayas valley and the Lys valley. This pass is commonly called col de Bettaforcaz, Frenchization of the word Bättfòrkò, meaning precisely col du Bätt in the titsch of Gressoney-La-Trinité. But it should be noted that the toponym Col de Bettaforcaz is in fact a repetition.
The Vincent Pyramid is a mountain of the Monte Rosa massif in the Pennine Alps. It is located entirely in Italian territory along the watershed that divides the upper Lys valley from the upper Valsesia descending from Ludwigshöhe. The summit is bordered to the west by the Lys glacier, to the south by the Indren glacier, and to the east by the Piode glacier. One of the risky trekking destination and also the summit offers a beautiful panoramic view of this area.
The Balmenhorn is a 4,167 m listed elevation belonging to the Monte Rosa massif in the Pennine Alps. It is particularly known because on its summit there is the Felice Giordano bivouac and the majestic statue of Christ of the Peaks. It can be seen along the road that leads from Capanna Giovanni Gnifetti to Capanna Regina Margherita. It is not commonly listed among the Alpine peaks higher than 4000 meters because it does not meet all the criteria to be considered a peak in its own right.
The Quintino Sella refuge to Felik is a retreat located in the municipality of Gressoney-La-Trinité, in the valley of Lys, in the Pennine Alps at 3585 meters above sea level in the Monte Rosa massif. It is located on the edge of the Felik glacier. It has a capacity of 142 seats. The indicative opening goes from June to September and is often conditioned by the climatic characteristics. The most frequented access takes place from the Lys valley.
The Val Vogna is a downstream side of Valsesia, in the territory of the fraction Riva Valdobbia. It extends for 14 km and can be reached from the hamlet of Riva via a small asphalted road which after a few bends reaches the hamlet of Cà di Janzo. From here the road continues slightly uphill to the hamlet of Sant'Antonio.
The Parrotspitze or Punta Parrot is a mountain in the Pennine Alps, located in the massif of the Monte Rosa, along the border between Italy and Switzerland. Presenting the mountain as a long and sharp ridge arranged in a west-east direction, it is possible to ascend it easily starting from the Col del Lys or from the Col Sesia, the col that separates it from the nearby Punta Gnifetti. A longer and steeper ascent unfolds up the Valais face starting from the Fratelli Gugliermina hut.
Lyskamm, also known as Silberbast is a mountain in the Pennine Alps lying on the border between Switzerland and Italy. It consists of a five-kilometer-long ridge with two distinct peaks. The mountain has gained a reputation for seriousness because of the many cornices lying on the ridge and the frequent avalanches, thus leading to its nickname the Menschenfresser One of the risky trekking destinations in Switzerland and the climate is also very cool.
The Margherita Hut is situated on Punta Gnifetti at a height of 4556m on the Monte Rosa massive. It is clearly visible from the valley and catches the eye of all who look up towards the peaks. It is the highest refuge in Europe, it houses important labor for scientific research and it is dedicated to Queen Margaret of Savoy who overnighted in 1893, the year of its inauguration.
The Signalkuppe is a peak in the Pennine Alps on the border between Italy and Switzerland. It is a minor peak in the Monte Rosa massif. The mountain gets its name from "the Sign", a prominent gendarme atop the eastern ridge, which was demolished when the Reina Margherita shelter was built.
The Zumsteinspitze is a huge mountain peak located in the Pennine Alps on the border between Italy and Switzerland. It was the first summit of the Monte Rosa massif to be climbed. Its name comes from the topographer Joseph Zumstein, who explored the peak with other scientists. It is one of the 4 Monte Rosa summits looming high above the Macugnagna valley and forming the famous Monte Rosa East wall, the biggest and highest rock face in the Alps.
The Savoy Castle is a villa nineteenth-century style eclectic located in Gressoney-Saint-Jean, in Valle d'Aosta. The building, while bearing the name of "castle", is actually a large three-story villa in an eclectic style, characterized by five neo-Gothic towers. The mixture of styles was an explicit request of the sovereign, who personally participated in the progress of the work with particular assiduity.
Pollux is a mountain in the Pennine Alps on the border between Valais, Switzerland, and the Aosta Valley in Italy. It is the lower of a pair of twin peaks, the other being Castor, named after the Gemini twins of Roman mythology. Pollux' peak is at an elevation of 4,092 m. It is separated from Castor by a pass at 3,847 m. One of the adventurous trekking destinations in this area. The first ascent was by Jules Jacot from Geneva with guides Josef-Marie Perren and Peter Taugwalder on August 1, 1864
