Travel Itinerary

Welcome to the Evangeline Cottage! You will arrive at my 100 year old home in downtown Lafayette and be welcomed with a Cajun amuse-bouche--boudin! We'll pour some drinks (BYOB or there will be some wine and local beers for purchase) and go into the kitchen for a food demonstration. Cajun food can't be cooked in one hour, so your meal will already be simmering on the stove, but we'll go over each course, showcase it's ingredients, and demonstrate how it's made. Cajun cuisine is as rich in its history as it is in taste! After the demonstration, we'll sit for your curated meal. A starter featuring local ingredients and whatever seasonally fits best. An entree of my momma's homemade gumbo with a Cajun side and fresh French bread. Lastly, a famous dessert from a local spot! Please note that this tour needs a minimum of 4 people to run.View Location

Sample Menu

Starters
  • Corn Maque Choux - The name "maque choux" (pronounced "mock shoe") is believed to be a Cajun interpretation of a Native American corn dish.
  • Fried Okra - Okra grows abundantly in south Louisiana and fried okra is a classic side dish, a must-try while you are visiting the area!
  • Jambalaya - Chicken and pork sausage jambalaya is a cajun staple!
Main Courses
  • Gumbo - Authentic Chicken and pork sausage gumbo (the traditional Cajun gumbo) is a must-have when traveling south Louisiana. My momma's recipe!
Deserts
  • Bread Pudding - Bread pudding is every Cajun's favorite dessert. If you don't like bread pudding chances are you've never had it in south Louisiana!
