Archaeological Site Mycenae
Mycenae, Greece, 212 00Mycenae is one of the most significant archaeological sites of ancient Greece, located in the northeastern Peloponnese. Flourishing between 1600 and 1100 BCE, it was a major center of the Mycenaean civilization, which greatly influenced classical Greek culture. According to legend, Mycenae was the kingdom of Agamemnon, leader of the Greeks during the Trojan War.
The site is renowned for its impressive architecture, including the massive Cyclopean walls, the famous Lion Gate, and royal tholos tombs such as the Treasury of Atreus. Excavations by Heinrich Schliemann in the 19th century uncovered rich grave goods, offering insight into the wealth and artistry of the Mycenaeans.
Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mycenae attracts visitors from around the world, offering a powerful connection to Greece’s heroic past and its enduring myths.

The centerpiece of the site is the impressive Temple of Zeus, partially restored, dating to the 4th century BCE.
