About the Activity
A magnificent alpine lake offering wonderful views of high peaks surrounding it and the path leading to it. It is one of the most virgin and breathtaking places in whole Greece. The Lake is located on a 2,050 m. elevation on Tymfi Mountain, in the reserve area of the North Pindus Range NW of Gamila crest (2,497 m.) which is Tymfi’s highest peak. The surrounding landscape is naked and very impressive in its rare beauty offering a panoramic view of the mountain peaks.8 hours

We start our ascent at the village of Mikro Papigo, following a well-carved path to the mountain refuge of Astraka. Throughout the climb, we have excellent views of the Towers of Papigo and Mount Nemertsika (in Albania), among others. Then we descend to the dry (in summer months) Xerolimni lake, which was formed by glaciers millions of years ago. After that, a steep hike to the lake, rewarding us with the satisfaction of climbing it, the Balkan chamois (goat-antelope) population wondering what we do at their habitat and wonderful views of the Aoos canyon and Mount Smolikas (the second-highest in Greece).View Location
